History

• When They Met

  
  When Kohana was just a young goddess, barely even seven years old in her incarnation; she witnessed hunters chase a white fox into a river. She quickly lost sight of his head as it was swept underwater. At that moment for some strange reason she decided she would save it. Despite how this was not her place to do so in the eyes of the gods. Unfortunately in her young age, instead of just saving the fox, she had actually turned him into a human like creature. Familiar to her as the yokai(ghost/demon/spirit) that she was used to seeing. Horrified on approaching shores the fox man fled, and she believed she would never see him again.
  
  Two weeks later she was approached. "excuse me?" She would stop on the stone bridge and turned to face the fox man who she'd saved. Afraid shed be scolded, she was shocked when he crouched down and took her hand. "Are you the young goddess who saved me?" She nodded her small head. "Thank you." His smile warmed her heart.
  That simple thank you sent butterflies into her stomach.

• As just friends

  Over the next many years their friendship grew. It took a few years for the goddess to realize she didn't know his name, she'd simply just called him "fox". she asked his name. She was shocked to find he didn't have one and asked simply if she could give him one, when she found one that suited him. This he agreed to.
  
  Their friendship grew despite the fact she had no name to give him. He helped her to tame her hair, and eventually convinced to trim her flowing locks. She took his words to heart despite the fact she didnt need to. Their bond grew closer with everyday that he came to the shrine, and she began to enjoy his company. She began to debate what to name him as each month passed.

• Be my Familiar

  Shortly after her fifteenth birthday, considered a woman by the gods, she made a decision. "Fox, I wish to ask you something."
  "Yes my Lady?"
  "Would you become my familiar and join me at this shrine?"the request enticed a reaction in the fox that was nothing less than pleased.
  "I would be honored."
  "Then from today forward you will be known as Yuuichi."
  "Thank you Lady Kohana." he would bow and take her hand, smiling up at her with the same smile as the day they met.
  
  As her familiar he would not only call her shrine home, but he would be tied to her in a way no other could. He happily took the chance to serve and protect her, and do whatever he could to ensure the happiness of his Goddess.

• Closer and Closer

  
  
  As years progressed forward their relationship changed in more ways than anyone could ever expect. They grew even closer with every day. While Kohana dealt with her Godly duties, Yuuichi tended to the shrine. Cooking, Cleaning and Gardening were just the start of his duties. He dedicated almost all his free time to serving his lady. And in the same way she became reliant on Yuuichis presence. At night she could not sleep unless he was close by her side, in the mornings she could not function if he did not join her for breakfast.
  
  She even went out of her way to protect him in return, healing any injuries, and comforting any fears or nightmares that quelled him.

• That fateful Kiss

  
  No one could have predicted the on slough of romantic emotions that bloomed between the two just some 200 years after meeting. It was denied and shoved down as both knew it taboo. And yet, by the chance of fate they shared a kiss. They tried to move forward from it pretend it didnt happen, but neither could deny their feelings.
  
  Kohana had see a vision of her death. She knew too well that she would pass on and return to the heavens, abandoning her earthly body. She explained to Yuuichi that this would happen, and the result was a very strong outburst from him.She attempted to console him with the fact that she would reincarnate, but he wanted to hear nothing of it. He was upset, he felt like she was just choosing to leave him. He promised to protect her. He swore he would protect her and prevent her death. This just lead to more arguing.
  
  "There is nothing that will come of this! Youre just a stupid fox who has no self control!"It wasnt true, in fact shes the one who had originally initiated the kiss. and this infuriated him. He grabbed her by the chin and waist. threatening to do much worse than kiss her by the look in his eyes. It frightened and shocked her, shed never seen him so threatening to her, he had never once laid a hand on her and hed never been so angry.
  
  "Right so im a stupid fox with no self control, that means i just cant keep my hands off you right? that ill do whatever the hell i want to you." when he begins to feel her shake he drops his arms. "i cant believe you would think im that savage...." Walking away he did not speak to her for two days.

• Her death

  
  
  He would never expect to approach the shrine after gathering fruit, to find a messenger of the Gods fleeing the shrine. He had no time to speak to him before he was gone from site. Entering the shrine and setting the basket down he called to Kohana. "My lady, why did the gods send their messenger?" when his called question received no response. he ran quickly to the center room of the shrine, pulling the door open faster than he could move to find his lady collapsed on the floor. Her body releasing glowing orbs. The decay of a god. he immediately lifted her into his arms. "Lady Kohana, no please. you have to hold on, you cant leave like this." he began pleading with her dying body.
  
  "yuuichi, return me to the sea, so i may see you once again." he voice barely broke a whisper before falling completely limp. Her ties to the earthly plane being severed. The fox would hate to admit that he sobbed over her body for three hours before he could even begin to stand.

• Goodbye

  

  
  "I promised to protect you, and i have failed you.... i could not save you the way you saved me." hed whisper to her limp body, kissing her forehead before beginning to walk into the water. As the waters tension broke by her limbs touch, her powers disintegrate into the air like ash, flying on the wind as glowing orbs. Fadding into the glowing ripples cause by her bodys touch. She was returning to the heavens, her body turning to pure light, in the most peaceful and serene way possible.
  
  Walking out to where the water reached her abdomen, hed say one more farewell, before releasing her to the sea. Watching as her body fell beneath the surface blissfully turning to light.

• With You Always

  
  Unfortunately, days passed, they turned to weeks and weeks turned to years, years turned to decades and eventually decades turned to over a century. And the Goddess never returned with her next reincarnation. Punished by the gods for saving the fox, penalized. The Goddess was locked in the heavens. Until her sentence was up all she could do was watch over the fox, staying by his side as much as she could. She could see the pain on his face as he prayed at the shrine everyday, praying for her return.
  
  She was baffled that he still prayed so many years later, amazed that he could hold so much faith in her. And honored that his feeling were so pure. However she did not ignore the fact that he grew colder with every passing day that she was gone. She knew that he would accept her with open arms but she also knew that he needed to grow, to trust more than just her. Unfortunately from the heavens she had no choice but to watch him suffer, and pray that he could feel her presence guiding him.
